A Primer on our degrees

M.D. – This is the degree of Medical Doctor awarded after four years of medical school. All the practicing M.D.s at Jackson Medical Group also completed several years of residency training towards a primary care specialty in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

PA-C – This stands for Physician Assistant-Certified. P.A.s complete four years of college, followed by a two-year medical training program that includes numerous clinical rotations. Most P.A. programs also require two years of employment in a medical back office or hospital setting as a condition of admission. P.A.s work in association with a physician.

N.P. – Nurse Practioner is a Master’s Degree awarded only to Registered Nurses (RNs) who have completed the necessary graduate work. Nancy Warner carries the Family Nurse Practitioner degree, FNP, reflecting her specialization in family nursing. N.P.s can practice without the supervision of a physician.
